The Kingdom of Lombard is a large Lombardian Kingdom located in Western Thedas where it lies on an island of sorts but is not completely landlocked through the formation of several large bridges during its time under the Empire of Numeron. The Kingdom of Lombard has a very large population but this population is spread quite dramatically with the only cities being located on the coast at the located of the six bridges with the four largest being the four largest bridges, and the rest of the population is rural living an agriculture based life throughout the mainland.

The Kingdom of Lombard is dominated religiously by two major religions in the form of the Temple of Dragonoph, and the Church of Sigmar of which have basically divided the Kingdom between each other, while a third much weaker religion in the form of Christianity has spread into south eastern Lombard by the Christian Kingdom of Ripuari, but this spread has minimal and only increased noticeably following House Gausian using them to take control of one of the bridge cities.

The Kingdom of Lombard is officially an absolute Tetrarchy where in the Kingdom of Lombard is controlled by four Monarchs of whom are the four major noble families of Lombard (Control of the four major bridges), but it has increasingly become a single monarchy as House Gausian placed control of two of the bridges in the hands of Knight Orders loyal to the family while the other have slowly come into the powerbase of religious Orders leading to the current state of only a single King being crowned in the capital.

The Kingdom of Lombard is dominated by the Frankish ethnic group called the Lombards of whom migrated into the region during the years prior to the coming of the Empire of Numeron, and since these early days the Lombards have been the dominent group of the region of Lombard. The Kingdom of Lombard once contained a large population of Atlantians but during the Downfall of Numeron the Lombards would turn on the Numenorians and Atlantians and civil war spread throughout the region of Lombard which following the victory of the Lombards the remaining Atlantians and Numenorians either fled or were killed leaving the land nearly completely Lombardian.

The Kingdom of Lombard was founded during the Downfall of Numeron when the leaders of the six bridge cities of Lombard would turn on their Numenorian Lords and brought civil war into the region of Lombar and following their fighting the Lombards would have victory leading to a massive Atlantian and Numenorian genocide and the founding of the Kingdom of Lombard. The Kingdom of Lombard would be incorperated through marriage into the Allemeni Empire and became one of the core kingdoms of the Empire and the northern fortress that held off the northern lands.

Geography[]

The Kingdom of Lombard is located on the Island of Lombard of which would make them landlocked but during the rule of the Empire of Numeron many very large bridges were constructed to connect the Kingdom of Lombard to the mainland and ever since the control of these bridges has become a source of major political weight in the Kingdom of Lombard.

History[]

Early History[]

The Blind Eye Betrayal[]

Main Article : Blind Eye Betrayal

The Blind Betrayal
I lost two brothers. I lost an uncle. I lost a cousin. I lost two close friends. I lost all that following your family. Ask me again if I'm sorry for what we did to your family.
Hanna Meestur Cover Amazing1
They murdered my family Theodora. I can't let that go. It doesn't matter how much time passes I can still see there faces, and it breaks my heart that the Lorranians are the reason I don't get to see them anymore...I can't let it go.
Alahis Gausian

The Blind Eye Betrayal would form itself from the roots of the First Lorraine-Lombard War where the forces of the Grand Lombard Alliance fought and defeated the Kingdom of Lorraine but at great cost in lives. While Lombard had gained much and so had several of their allies (Dutchy of Lambur, and the Kingdom of Ripuari) it was the Dutchy of Willen that had gained little and had suffered dramatic losses during the fighting causing a bitterness among the leadership of the Grand Dutchy. With this bitterness in mind the Grand Dutchy of Willen would begin negotiating with the new Teutonic leadership of House Beiberwoosen since their control of the Kingdom of Lorraine. Under Duke Odilon Prantl the negotiations had stalled but things were changing beneath the surface as the widow Hanna Meestur came to the court of Kintzheim where her lust for vengeance moved her to make a power play. Hanna would first murder Trudlinde Prantl the wife of Luitwen Prantl who stood as the heir to the dutchy of Willen and then following this murder she would seduce Luitwen Prantl leading to their betrothal and then quick marriage after her seduction of Luitwen led to her pregnancy. Now wife to Luitwen she once again killed her way to power murdering her husbands father leading to Luitwen Prantl becoming the new duke of Willen and now the dutchess she fostered in Luitwen his bitterness towards Lombard and with this new power she pushed the negotiations with Lorraine to new levels. The negotiations reach their final stage and Luitwen wants protection against aggression from the Kingdom of Alcase as well as rights to the mining in the mountains of western Lombard of which Alceste Vesoul is willing to give both leading to Willen agreeing to the plot of Lorraine to murder the leadership of the Kingdom of Lombard and instigate a fight between Lombard, and Lorraine.

Theolinda and Rathier[]

I loved your sister Alahis. She was my everything and I have come here to tell you what actually happened to her.
Rathier Prantl

Theolinda Gausian would travel to the Meeting at Kintzheim where the Blind Eye Betrayal was planned as she was being married to Rathier Prantl the younger brother of Duke Luitwen Prantl of the Dutchy of Willen and while this marriage was planned to unify the two houses it was never actually planned to happen and Theolinda would be sent to Kintzheim before the rest of the Lombards with a group of five guards and got to know Rathier Prantl. Theolinda Gausian would have such an effect over her betrothed Rathier Prantl that after only a weeks together the young Rathier was infatuated with her and this infatuation led to Rathier being left out of the planning of the actual Blind Eye Betrayal and the two would spend all their time together growing quickly into love as the Blind Eye Betrayal moved to its culmination. During the Blind Eye Betrayal it was Theolinda Gausian that was spending time with Rathier Prantl in his room when Rathier was called away by his brother and then while alone in Rathier's room it was Theolinda that was strangled to death by a hedge knight of House Prantl and then left to be found by Rathier. The killing of Theolinda would have immense impact as Rathier's reaction was one of violence with Rathier killing the knight who murdered Theolinda and then fleeing Kintzheim where his family believed he was just upset and blowing off steam but this was proven incorrect when he fled the Willen all together and left for the Kingdom of Lombard where he would stay with House Gausian betraying his own family.

The Dining Hall[]

Valhen Gausian would be at the dining hall where the Willen forces instigated the Blind Eye Betrayal and he would be one of the first struck as the Willen made their attack and without a weapon or any warning of what was to happen he was stabbed in the neck and left to bleed out as the massacre unfolded around him. Prellia Gausian was at the Blind Eye Betrayal and was present when the Willen instigated the massacre and she watched as the dining hall became a blood bath and she attempted to fight with a kitchen knife but was attacked by a Willen knight and strangled to death.

Government[]

Monarchy[]

The Kingdom of Lombard is officially an absolute Tetrarchy where in the Kingdom of Lombard is controlled by four Monarchs of whom are the four major noble families of Lombard (Control of the four major bridges), and these monarchs hold a kingship title as well as the duke title of their respective dukedom leaving the fuedal system in place just with several kings. Historically the following four dutchies have been the members of the Tetrarchy :

  • Cologne :
  • Teux :
  • Leux
  • Auxonne :

Following the events of the Blinding Eye Betrayal the city of Vesoul would become a member of the Tetrarchy as they menipulated the vote to exclude the city of Teux from the tetrarchy becoming a member for the first time.

New Tetrarchy[]

A Tetrarchy is ended when a majority can no longer be maintained by the survivng monarchs (eg. two monarchs die before their replacements have been voted in by the remaining monarchs). The death of all four monarchs before their replacements would instigate the invovlement of the Hand of Mathena of whom is an ancient religious leader of the now diminished Frankish Pantheon and the hand of Mathena would take control of the new claiments to the tetrarchy.
