Maethis Umbrenaria is the son of Preslidan, and Moerllia Umbrenaria making him a member of House Umbrenaria.
House Umbrenaria would become involved in the events of the Tevinter Coup when under the words of Preslidan Umbrenaria IV. the prince of the Realm of Shiver the Realm of Shiver would take a very hardline against the Death Eaters and would completely block all entrances into the Realm of Shiver. The escalation of the Realm of Shiver would move to a dramatic and different level when they would assist Ameria Deleron's escape into the Kingdom of Dole, and following this several counts within the realm would turn against House Umbrenaria forming a rebellion which culminated in the killing of many of the family and started the Shiver Civil War. Maethis Umbrenaria would escape the Coup of Shiver that killed so many of House Umbrenaria and believing himself the rightful lord of the Realm of Shiver named himself king of Shiver and took control of Minus Shiver in a brief siege. The return of Daethis Umbrenaria would at first be a source of great joy for Maethis Umbrenaria but the emotional stress of so many of his family dying had led to a cost to the mind of Maethis and he begin to feel jelousy towards Daethis which only increased when Daethis took the mantle of King of Shiver as the older of the siblings.
