Laura Termont is the daughter of Galen, and Susan Termont making her a member of House Estermont, as well as a member of House Termont. Laura Termont has three siblings in the form of Hadlen, Laura, and Maria Termont of which Fladen is someone that has became fanatically loyal to Hadlen early in their life and through this has become a very close member of his entourage, his brother Hadlen is his best friend and the person he trusts most in the world, while her final sibling Maria is still young at the end of the Rise of Lucerne.
Laura Termont from an early age was interested in sneaking around the grounds of her families estate in Lucerne Hold, and this led to her eventually becoming involved with a group of local thiefs led by Drarian Bonder. With Drarian Bonder the thieves would become rather wealthy after they begin to rob from the rich merchants, and nobles of the Lucerne Hold and were able to evade capture despite the increasingly difficult time they had from the local authorities. There good times would come to an end after several members of their thieves guild were captured and executed by assasins sent in several rich nobles that wanted revenge. The Thieves and the assasins would engage in a brief conflict over several weeks which would eventually end with heavy losses to the assasins but the Thieves were broken, and finally the assasins stormed the thieves home in the slums of Lucerne Proper. After a fight the assasins killed everyone outside of Laura, and Drarian, and as they held the two a man entered clad in rich clothing. The man would beat Drarian and order the killing of Laura until one of his personal gaurds whispered in his ear that he recegnized her as a member of House Termont, and he was forced to let her go. It took weeks for her body to properly heal and while it was healing she hid herself in her room using her ladies in waiting to hide herself from her family and she used this time to think about the future and how she would one day get Drarian back. Laura would spend the next few years in a quiet cycle of rejecting constant marriages, and her father's lack of will led her to being able to do this, and eventually she would join up with the Order of the Violet Dragon who heard rumors about her youthful indescretion. Despite her young age she was able to quickly rise in the Order of the Violet Dragon, and she used this growth to find information about House Poyal, and what kind of condition her beloved Dranian was in. She begin to send him letters through servents in House Poyal, and each letter brought the two closer and closer to the love that they once had.
